The Authorization fee (actually an authorization request fee) is charged each time a transaction is sent to the card-issuing bank to be authorized. The fee applies whether or not the request is approved. Note this is not the same as Transaction fee or Per Item fee. You many also see a Voice Authorization on your contract, This fee is only charged when you call in your transaction to an 800 number. It is useful if your terminal or software isn't working and you need to perform an authorization.

Hello I was wondering what an Authorization fee was and why was it charged? I noticed it came up a few times in my old contract.

Sabina,

I have been in the Payment Industry for several years in Canada, even though there are some differences when it comes to US merchant services Vs. Canadian merchant services, this still stands a good list of questions to ask all providers.

Good to see other companies providing good content on their blogs. I don't do US Merchant Accounts, let me know if you like to do a link exchange...?
